The rook moves both horizontally or vertically but only in straight directions on the chessboard but it can move one square at one time. The knight can only move in L shape directions on the chessboard. The bishop can move any number of squares diagonally but jump over other pieces, so long as it is not obstructed by another piece. The queen can moved in any directions it may be horizontally, vertically, straight or diagonally but it cannot jump over other pieces. The king can one move one step at a time it may be straight, horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The paws cannot be travelled or moved backwards whereas the rook, knight, bishop, queen and king can be moved backward. One moves is interesting that is if the rook and king are side by side then the king can swap its place with the rook.
